My dilemma is that I went into FE to teach adults, but the adults are no longer a priority. FE is becoming a skills factory, controlled by employer demand and economic pressure. Do I find another job or bide my time until the tide turns once again in favour of adult education?
Is this Government really serious about lifelong learning any more? They have talked it up in the past, but now appear to be abandoning it.
Many adults must now make a decision to take a course that can be quantifiably measured, whether they are ready or not. So much for learning pathways!
Who is to blame for this? The buck passes around quicker than a quaffle in a game of Quidditch. This is not a trend but a watershed from which part-time adult education is unlikely to recover.
