Inspiration and help outside the classroom are available to Higher art and design pupils and will cost them nothing more than their time.
At the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh, pupils can see Pablo Picasso’s works for themselves and find out about his loves and life.
More than just a painter, Picasso experimented with many different media. This major international exhibition includes ceramics (pictured), linocuts, lithographs, jewellery and paintings from Picasso’s post-war years in Vallauris in the south of France. The exhibition is free and runs daily until October 28.
Meanwhile, practical help for Higher students is available at the National Museum of Rural Life in East Kilbride, where students prepared to sacrifice four Saturdays in November can work with a professional artist and develop their portfolios using different media, including drawing, printmaking, sculpture and photography.
The workshops run on November 3, 10, 17 and 24. They are aimed at S5-6 pupils and run over four hours. They are free but there are only 12 places.
