S2 pupils in Falkirk designed a teenager’s bedroom as part of a project with one of Scotland’s biggest housebuilders.

The 10 schoolchildren at Graeme High took part in a contest to make over the room in a Larbert show home, organised by Cala Homes. The winner was Aaron Harkness, 14, whose African-influenced motifs were brought to life by the presenter of ITV’s 60 Minute Makeover, John Amabile.

The competition was part of a long-running relationship between the school and Cala, which has linked design and technology, business education, art and geography. The aim is to show pupils the variety of careers in the construction industry. “There is enormous value for our pupils in seeing the relevance of what they are learning in the classroom,” said headteacher Lesley Carroll, “and pupils are really motivated by this kind of experience.”
