Glasgow's Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum (pictured), the biggest museum in Britain, is open again after a three-year, multi-million pound refurbishment. It has reformed itself into 22 galleries, with themes such as Creatures of the Past, Looking at Design and Every Picture Tells a Story, new discovery centres, a mini-museum for under-fives and an intention to tell interesting stories about the multiplicity of objects it holds - of which some 8,000 are on show. This weekend East Kirkcarswell Farm, near Kirkcudbright in Dumfries and Galloway, holds its fourth Wickerman Festival. Billing itself as Scotland's alternative music festival, it has nine stages, dance and cult music tents and a children's area, much like many other festivals.
