Ken Arthur, currently head of specialist services, will not take up his post until next April and it will be for two years only. By then, he will be aged 60.
Mr Arthur will work alongside Mrs Allan between now and next April, principally developing a new senior management structure. His task thereafter will be to implement that structure and develop the style of learning communities which Glasgow has pioneered. Overseeing a pound;600 million school modernisation programme will be another task.
Mr Arthur is a veteran of Strathclyde Region days where he was a senior inspector in its quality assurance regime. Prior to that, he was headteacher at Lochend Secondary in Glasgow's Easterhouse.
