Parents in the leafy suburbs are not usually known for featuring in the statistics on violence against school staff - but East Dunbartonshire, it seems, is an exception.
Figures presented to the council’s education committee show that, while only 3 per cent of alleged perpetrators nationally were parents in session 2002-03, this rose to 15 per cent in the Bearsden-Milngavie-Kirkintilloch area.
We must assume that this contributes to the fact that the authority’s figures for verbal abuse also exceeds the national average - 46 per cent against 25 per cent.
