ASCL general secretary Brian Lightman has stepped down

Brian Lightman is stepping down as general secretary of heads’ union ASCL with immediate effect, it was announced today.

He will be succeeded by Malcolm Trobe, the current deputy general secretary, who will take over as interim general secretary prior to the appointment of a permanent successor.

Mr Lightman has been ASCL general secretary since 2010. Mr Trobe said: “Throughout his period as general secretary, Brian has shown unwavering commitment to championing and supporting the work done by ASCL members in ensuring that the job of school and college leadership continues to be fulfilling and worthwhile.”

A press release from ASCL said Mr Lightman planned “to pursue other professional interests”.
