The Scottish schools’ track season starts tomorrow with the Scottish Pentathlon and Relay championships being staged at Scotstoun.

Unfortunately for the Scottish Schools Athletic Association, entries for the pentathlon have been hit by the fact that the Scottish Athletics Federation is staging its under-17 and under-20 championships at Grangemouth on Sunday.

Scott Mcinlay (Strathallan) will defend the senior boys’ pentathlon title and Matthew Thompson (Merchiston Castle) will be out to retain his Group B title. Cumbernauld High’s Alistair McDiarmid is also one to watch.

The girls’ events have been hit hardest.

However, entries for the relay championships are up with a total of 166, including primary schools, entered.
