Scottish Athletics’ Hill Running Commission has issued new guidelines for junior hill running in Scotland, as outlined in The TES Scotland early in the summer.
David Armitage, convener of the commission, said: “We hope that more juniors will get involved in mainstream hill running if they know they will find appropriate courses.
“Scotland has outstanding terrain for hill running and there is no reason why we should not produce new stars to follow in the footsteps of our previous World Trophy medallists. This will depend on our continuing to bring young athletes into the sport. We hope the junior guidelines will help.”
A conference on eating disorders in sport, which will be of specific interest to coaches guiding young athletes, will be held in Edinburgh on November 11. It will be jointly hosted by UK Athletics and the Eating Disorders Association and Dave Collins, the performance director of UK Athletics, will give one of the keynote speeches.
