Almost 700 athletes competed in the British Aerospace Scottish Schools’ Pentathlon and Relay Championships at Scotstoun, Glasgow, last weekend - 70 pentathletes and more than 600 runners. The under-17 boys’ pentathlon attracted the biggest entry, with 19 competitors; five boys competed in the over-17 class.
Strathallan’s Scott McKinlay won the senior boys’ pentathlon title, finishing with a total of 3,028 points. His results were 200 metres in 24.0sec, 1,500 metres 4 min 37.4 sec, 110 metres hurdles 15.9 sec, long jump 5.50 metres and shot putt 9.56 metres.
Weather conditions could have been kinder and the only championship best record set at the event was in the under-14 boys’ relay, which was won by Annan Academy in a time of 49.8 secs.
A primary schools’ inter-area relay competition was run in tandem with the championships, with schools from Annan to Inverness represented.
