The aim of this book is to help teachers in all settings understand autism and how to help pupils with autistic spectrum disorders to learn.

The author, Martin Hanbury, draws on long experience of teaching such children to provide a valuable and thoroughly practical resource for teachers, whatever their current level of knowledge.

Hanbury manages to convey in straightforward terms some of the intricacies of what it means to have autism, and combines theoretical background with a wealth of ideas (many of them photocopiable) that will help pupils with the disorder cope in the social setting of a school.

His down-to-earth approach ensures teachers keep in mind the basics of what it means to be autistic, while making sure pupils are treated as individuals with their own idiosyncratic ways of responding to a world they struggle to comprehend.
