Four students achieved the best result so far for a British team at the International Biology Olympiad held in Latvia this July. David Wyatt from Winchester College was second in the world and top in Europe and Erica Thompson, Douglas Academy, Glasgow, came fifth. Both collected gold medals. Their team mates Rahul Vohra, King Edward’s School, Birmingham, and Timothy Riley, Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Blackburn, received a silver and bronze medal respectively. The competitors - all winners at the British Biology Olympiad - completed a theoretical paper and a series of experiments alongside some 150 other competitors. All participants had the chance to go on excursions together. For next year’s Olympiad details contact the Institute of Biology.
