The finals of the Northern Electric School Sports Awards will be held in January 1996 at NE’s training headquarters in Newcastle upon Tyne. The scheme, which is co-organised by the National Playing Fields Association, requires schools in the north of England to demonstrate the methods they use to involve all their pupils in sport and physical activity. Past winners have used activities ranging from sword dancing to archery and ocean rowing to enthuse children. The top school will win a trophy and Pounds 800 to be spent on sports development or facilities. Details: NPFA, 25 Ovington Square, London SW3 1LQ, tel: 0171 584 6445.
