The festival is to be sponsored by Glasgow University for three years, meaning organisers can build on an event that was only established in 2005 but is now expected to take place annually.
Aye Write! aims to increase the use of libraries, encourage a love of books, reading and writing, boost awareness of the city's writing heritage and contemporary writing, and appeal to those people who do not normally go to literary festivals.
It includes a week of free events for schools from February 19-23, targeted at all ages from nursery to secondary. There will be more than 60 sessions with authors, taking in writing, illustration and storytelling. There will also be 12 free film screenings organised by the Glasgow Film Theatre for schools, and experiential play sessions for nurseries.
The second Aye Write! festival takes place from February 16-25. Most events will be in the Mitchell Library.
