Back to a future of elitism

In my boyhood, many pupils who passed the 11-plus could not go to grammar school because their parents could not afford it. Similarly today, many who qualify in future for university training will be deterred by much the same problem.

Many parents in future will be hesitant to advise their offspring to incur the costs which will be linked to higher education.

After half a century in the Labour movement with all its aspirations I had hoped for better than what is being handed down to us. The old adage that history repeats itself is apparently being fulfilled once again.
