THE MYSTERY backer behind Newbury College’s science A-level rescue package has been revealed as telecommunications giant Vodafone.
The locally-based mobile phone company - which has already contributed pound;100,000 to the college’s private finance initiative rebuilding programme - put up pound;25,000 to save physics, chemistry and biology which were threatened with competition from local school sixth forms. Gordon Bull, the principal, said the latest donation had “no strings attached”. He said the college was close to finalising further sponsorship with another “household name”.
