Shetland Badminton Association has started a recruitment drive for coaches. With Shetland hosting the Inter-Island Games in 2005, a major initiative is underway to get more badminton coaches qualified and ensure there is a development structure for young players to reach their potential.

The association says that large numbers of children play but fears that many are drifting away due to a lack of coaches and in their teenage years they are lost to the sport.
