Llanbister is a tiny village school “in rural isolation”, says headteacher Andrew Strong. So the staff make huge efforts to ensure their pupils keep a firm foothold in the modern world. Assemblies always begin by highlighting an issue, with the help of an interactive whiteboard, pupils record the life of the school in a monthly magazine produced on top-end publishing software, and release music they have recorded on CD. The school has made Flash animations and explosive multimedia presentations, all thanks, says Mr Strong, to the unstinting efforts of his star team, who are willing to burn the midnight oil learning how to use all these gadgets. As a reward, we’re sending them a very special Christmas cake, made with the best ingredients and decorated by hand, fromBettys and Taylors of Harrogate.
