The election of four new members to the national council of the Association for Colleges shows a balance of moderates and management hard-liners. Helen Gilchrist, a well-known moderate and principal of Nelson and Colne College swept home.
Tony Pitcher, principal of South-East Essex College, an industrial relations hard-liner, was second. In the election for governors, Margaret Morgan of Southwark College was ahead of Gerry Plowright of Norfolk College of Arts and Technology. TES columnist Michael Austin, principal of Accrington and Rossendale Tertiary College, is the new chairman.
