International gymnast Lynette Lisle, 16, is more than used to balancing acts. For the past six months, the aspiring Olga Korbut from Cardiff (pictured on page 1) has been juggling her training schedule with GCSE revision. As TES Cymru went to press, she was at a training camp in Ipswich with the British gymnastics squad, waiting for her mother Susan to ring with her results.

A nervous Lynette was unsure whether she would be doing cartwheels for joy, or preparing for a fall. “As long as I get five A-C grades, I’m happy.

Gymnasts retire young, so I need to have something else to rely on,” said the Fitzalan high school pupil.

“One thing in my favour is concentration. As a gymnast, it’s vital, and that’s the same for exams,” Lynette added.
