A handbook to help teachers select suitable books for children to read by themselves has been expanded to cover three and four-year-olds.
The fourth edition of Book Bands for Guided Reading lists 3,500 titles in 11 colour-coded bands, plus two new bands to cover foundation stage. It also includes a discussion of the challenges of using non-fiction books with young readers.
Sue Bodman, a co-author, said: “Choosing the right book is crucial: it should neither be as frustrating - more than one error every 10 words - nor so easy that it’s boring.”
