Less enigmatic and more straightforwardly enjoyable are the works of John Bangs, education officer of the National Union of Teachers. Mr Bangs, who studied fine art at Reading university, produces colourful pastel drawings, mostly of his holidays . He has just put some on his website (www.johnbangs.com) and the Diary cannot think of a quicker way of taking a virtual holiday. He cites the work of Edward Hopper, Jack Yates and Pierre Bonnard as influences. Mr Bangs is a member of Greenwich Open Studios in south-east London, and his studio will be open on June 24 and 25.
