Barnsley council approves academy plans

* Barnsley council has approved plans to create an academy in the south Yorkshire town. It altered its original plan to cater for pupils aged three to 19 following opposition from parents.

It will now tell the Department for Education and Skills that it wants an academy for pupils aged 11 to 19.
