(Photograph) - BASELINE assessment is taking on a whole new meaning for pupils in Essex, writes Jon Slater. A three-court centre at Deanes school in Benfleet will ensure that pupils are served plenty of tennis during Wimbledon fortnight and beyond.

The centre, which includes a classroom and fitness suite, is run jointly by the Lawn Tennis Association and the school - the first partnership of its kind. The association is monitoring the new centre’s success before deciding whether it should offer other schools similar opportunities. It provided most of the pound;800,000 funding with the remainder coming from Essex County Council. News, 14
