(Photograph) - A team of pupils from Kirklandpark primary in Strathaven, South Lanarkshire, has won the Scottish Executive’s competition to honour William Wallace, whose death 700 years ago is being marked this year.

The winning entry, “Battle of the Bullies”, tells the story of a Wallace statue in the school playground which comes alive to conquer bullies. A second team from the same school were runners-up.

Keeping a watchful eye in the far distance is Culture Minister Patricia Ferguson, who visited the school on Tuesday to make the announcement
