BBC's boost for education

BBC education programmes are not threatened by restructuring, as your report "Sacking hits BBC education programmes" (TES, July 14) implied.

Education from the BBC is being boosted with a stronger commitment than ever to helping audiences attain challenging learning goals. As your Analysis report said, we plan to spend more, not less, on education output.

Education Production - the separate department whic Marilyn Wheatcroft headed - will no longer exist, but its expertise and talent are not being lost. Education producers will continue to make specialist material, across all media. As part of the reorganisation, Marilyn's post will lapse. Recruitment for new posts begins this week.
