Once again, Jordanhill School in Glasgow’s west end (right) is Scotland’s top state performer. Only the same handful of local authority schools are in contention on any of the key indicators.

Jordanhill (which is funded directly by the Scottish Executive) had 78 per cent of its fourth year with five-plus Standard grades 1-2Intermediate 2. The best performing council schools, Williamwood and Mearns Castle high schools in East Renfrewshire, come close at 75 per cent and 70 per cent respectively.

The tiny Farr Secondary on the north coast of Scotland saw 70 per cent of pupils gain five or more of the top Standard gradeIntermediate passes - but that represents just seven of its 10 fourth-year pupils.

At Higher level, Jordanhill’s supremacy is evident again with 63 per cent gaining the key benchmark of three or more A-C passes. Anderson High in Shetland maintains its traditionally strong showing with 58 per cent of pupils in this category followed by Mearns Castle High and Dunblane High on 54 per cent.

Jordanhill also emerges in the lead for the schools with the largest proportion of pupils achieving five-plus Highers at A-C, 40 per cent. The best performing council schools on this measure are Dunblane High on 30 per cent and Mearns Castle High on 29 per cent.
