Capita Children’s Services will be launching developments to its SIMS Learning Gateway at stand D20. These include self-service tools for parents to view their child’s school reports online.
Developments for its face-recognition software will be on show at the Aurora stand (P18). The firm will unveil the photoIMPORT module for its faceREGISTER software, which imports photos of students directly in to the school’s MIS.
DCRS is new to BETT (N36) and claims to be the only company offering two-way radio communication products to education. It installs, hires and services two-way radios from entry-level to full systems.
Call-Systems Technology is launching ParentCall from stand E128. It is a web-based system that delivers messages by email, SMS to mobile phones or text to voice on landlines.
Truancy Call will be showcasing its new lesson-by-lesson monitoring service from stand A76. It is designed to deter children from missing lessons by detecting absence.
Promethean is inviting visitors to experience the latest developments to Promethean Planet on stand B30.
ClickView Live is the new video streaming device that allows schools to watch TV, copyright DVDs and VHS tapes on every computer in the school. See the product in action on stand C70.
Frog is unveiling new features for its Parental Engagement Portal from stand M50. New assessment features have been added to the portal.
Boardworks has recently launched MyWorks, an assessment solution that sends assessment results to the school’s VLE for review by teachers. The company says that MyWorks “teaches while testing”. See them at stand H29.
Genee World is launching IQ Pad at stand D99. The interactive learning response system works with ClassComm and Cens-Us and has yesno, number and full text answer options. Each IQ Pad has personalised modules to allow students to work at their own pace.
Serif is launching PagePlus X4 and WebPlus X4 on stand K36. PagePlus X4 has new features including integrated photo editing, graphics tools, a learning zone and industry standard file compatibility.
Furniture company KI is making its debut at the show this year. Products on display on Stand D140 include Torsion on the Go! seating, Hurry Up! tables and the KI 800 series of storage.

- The Home Access Programme launches at the BETT show and aims to provide computer and internet access via grants to some low-income families. The programme is designed to complement classroom teaching.

Crocodile Clips (SW6) is offering four teachers in every UK secondary school - one in each of science, maths, ICT and technology - the chance to sign up for free copies of its Yenka simulation software.
Fronter is unveiling details of its new Parent Portal on stand J10. On schedule to meet Becta’s earliest target for schools to provide parents with online reports by September 2010, Fronter intends to get its own up and running three months earlier. The tool allows teachers to use MIS data in the classroom and at home when planning lessons, and will allow students to see certain data in the learning environment from the MIS.
2Simple is showcasing its Online Tools, 2AssessICT and 2Simple Spanish on stand F59.
Autology will unveil the latest version of its content resource on stand K2. It has a live feed from Blinkx, said to be the world’s largest video repository. Students using Autology can now access video, audio and TV content, as well as textbooks and revision guides appropriate to their age and ability.
These resources - sourced from channels such as the BBC, Discovery Channel, National Geographic, ITV, Channel 4 and others - are “pushed” to the desktop, rather than making the student search for them.
ConnectED launches Second Sight for Sony PSP with live demos on Stand N54. Second Sight works with traditional printed content to trigger video, audio and interactive 3D images, and consists of PC software for content creation and a viewer application for the Sony PSP. Pilots of the software used Romeo and Juliet and allowed students reading the text to hear an audio track of how the cadence and meter might be read by an actor or see a video of the scene.
Mapcaster is a new program from Storm Educational Software that enables children to insert images or videos to maps. Available on CD-Rom or online through subscription, see it at stand R80.
14-19 REFORMS
- Creating Careers is launching its online functional skills courses from stand V12. Available through www.vision2learnforschools.com the courses can be carried out at the student’s own pace and all carry GCSE equivalent points. Functional skills are due to go live in 2010 as part of the 14-19 reforms and are practical skills in maths, ICT and English.
- EDI will be showcasing its on-screen assessment for Functional Skills, which it has developed as part of the QCDA pilot, on stand D109.
