Governors who sacked a deputy head who claimed school caretakers were claiming excessive overtime have been forced to reconsider their decision by the Education and Employment Secretary.

Jennifer Watson, 48, is still suspended from her job at the Sydney Smith school, Hull, pending an appeal against dismissal for gross misconduct in November 1993.

Gillian Shephard has told governors that the disciplinary panel which examined Mrs Watson’s conduct displayed evidence of bias.
