June 1-30

Families embarking on car trips are invited to record the number of bugs “splatted” and send the results to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds to help build a picture of how declining insect populations across the UK have affected some of our best-loved birds such as sparrows, swallows and house martins. Participants will be armed with a specially designed “splatometer” (a cardboard grid to aid the counting of insect splats on a number plate).
