Bird box

This year we installed a bird box with an inbuilt camera.

Children were gripped by the activities of two blue tits which nested in the box in May. We used infrared light so the birds were not disturbed. A TV screen was linked to the camera (pictured below) and I distributed videos around the classrooms.

Pupils collected data to use in maths, English and science lessons.

They also kept a log of what materials were used to make the nest, how it was made and how much time the birds spent in it. Visit www.seeinsidebox.co.uk which has a section for teachers to swap ideas.
