Where Britain leads, the world follows - in literature, engineering and the art of humiliating teachers on the internet. In October, The TES reported that YouTube “stings” in which teachers had footage of themselves posted on the website, were becoming common.

The phenomenon spread to Italy last month and now Canada. Two Year 9 pupils at a school in Gatineau, Quebec, have been suspended after officials learnt they goaded a teacher into losing his temper, filmed the episode and published it on YouTube, The New York Times reported.

And yet Tony Blair made no mention of Britain’s world-leading role in this trend in his great educational legacy speech. Surely some mistake?
