A recently retired and highly respected member of the directorate of a large authority somewhere in the central belt (enough anonymity - Ed) thought he was doing well when he landed a part-time job as an assessor for Charter Mark, which aims to improve customer service and awards successful applicants its prestigious logo.
When Her Majesty’s Inspectorate applied to be “Chartermarked”, it seemed a reasonable proposition that someone with a proven educational pedigree should be given the task.
Imagine his chagrin, however, when HMI objected and he was duly taken off the case. What next, we wonder? Could this open the floodgates for teachers, schools and authorities to appeal against some inspectors they have been allocated?
HMI could hardly complain.
