Boffins galore

In reply to the leading letter in last week’s TES, I can assure readers that “boffins” are alive and well in east Kent. Maybe it’s because we still have grammar schools. I manage a learning support unit in a secondary in a deprived area and often get bright students telling me that they didn’t bother to try in the 11-plus because they didn’t want to be thought of as boffins.
