A neets programme, Pathways to Success, is to launch formally in Bolton in November.

It will work with five schools in the area that are recognised to have a high volume of pupils who become Neets. Funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families, it has been given a #163;1.8 million grant to be used over three academic years.

The funding, given in March, has benefited more than 100 Year 11 pupils who entered further education this September. In November, the formal launch will see the scheme’s facilitators engage with more Year 10 and 11 pupils to offer mentoring, guidance and career options.

Leanne Gagic, programme manager, said: “It has been a tremendous success already. The school staff have been very supportive and are really positive about the programme.”

The project is an offspring of the popular Bolton Lads and Girls Club, established in 1889 to provide safe and proactive leisure activities for young people. GL.
