A bone to pick about milk

There is no scientific evidence to suggest dairy products are “the overlooked cause of a vast number of common ailments” (“Milk unkindness?”, TES, July 27). There is strong evidence, however, to show that their consumption is associated with good bone health.

Mr Hill suggests in his letter that sesame seeds are a good source of calcium. You would need to eat 23 tablespoons of sesame seeds to absorb the amount of calcium in a small (200 ml) glass of milk.
