Pilots have begun for Every Child a Writer. Teachers will be expected to focus on common problems with spelling, punctuation and creative writing.

The pilots will involve seven and eight-year-olds in 135 schools in Sheffield, Telford and Wrekin, Salford, Northumberland, Slough, Barking and Dagenham, Lewisham, Plymouth and Derbyshire. The Government will spend Pounds 169 million over three years on this, Every Child a Reader and Every Child Counts.
