The decline in boxing in schools has been linked to health concerns about boxing. However, the facts are that amateur boxing is safer than many other common school contact sports.
The concern over long-term brain damage in amateur boxing can also now be allayed, following some research which showed, over a nine-year period, that the natural decline in brain function was the same (or less) in amateur boxers than in matched controls.
