Pupils in Bradford are being asked to produce ideas for the design of new schools as part of the area’s Pounds 400 million secondary rebuilding scheme.

Last week, more than 80 students travelled to London for a study day intended to inspire their architectural thinking.

Organised by the Sorrell Foundation, the Joined Up Design for Schools event in the capital included a guided walk along the South Bank to study different architectural features.

The pupils went on to produce design ideas for the architects working on the Building Schools for the Future scheme in Bradford. Pupils were asked to include various themes such as security, sustainability, storage and colours.

Barry Grayburn, Bradford Council’s BSF project director, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for young people to express their views on how they would like their new schools to look and function, and to spend a day exploring different design techniques.”

Participating pupils came from Belle Vue Boys, Belle Vue Girls, Thornton Grammar, Holy Family, St Bede’s and Laisterdyke schools.
