MORE prisoners than ever are applying to undertake some form of study, it was claimed this week. In 2000, the Prisoners’ Education Trust received more than 1,000 enquiries and applicatins from offenders in the 75 prisons in the Trust’s scheme. But a shortfall in donations meant more than one-fifth of the requests for financial support had to be turned down.
