Since the Blair Witch Project, wondering around in the countryside in the dead of night isn’t perhaps as popular as it used to be. But if ever I find myself in mortal danger while taking the night-time air, I do hope there’s an FE student to hand.

The previously unrecognised talents of beauty therapy students were demonstrated in spectacular fashion recently during midnight manoeuvres by the Army Cadets. Kayleigh Burke, aged 17, who by day is a beauty therapy student at Sandwell college in the Midlands, has just saved a 27-year-old woman old from drowing by plucking her to safety from a lake in the Peak District.
