Bereavement affects two children a year in each school on average, but schools are struggling to help those affected, a poll has found. Eight in 10 UK schools do not have a written bereavement support policy and, of those that do, many have policies that are inadequate, according to a poll by the Amy Tom project and The Co-Operative Funeralcare. The poll, of almost 100 UK schools, found that of those who had bereavement policies, 70 per cent did not provide comprehensive advice for teachers.
