MALAYSIA: Pupils caught smoking for a fourth time will be expelled. Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, education minister, announced that pupils will be caned for a first offence, caned twice for a second and given an official warning, suspended the third time, and eventually excluded.

The ban extends to teachers - when on school property. The guidelines are part of a campaign to curb teenage smoking and extends a ban on lighting up in public places to nurseries, schools, colleges and universities.

The No Smoking for Teenagers campaign is funded by the Confederation of Malaysian Tobacco Manufacturers.
