FRANCE:A nursery school headteacher who bit a child on the arm as a disciplinary measure was last week given a two-week suspended prison sentence and fined Fr 1,500 (Pounds 158) by a Lyons criminal court.

Convicted of committing violence against a minor aged under 15, the teacher, now retired, said the six-year-old had just bitten a classmate and she had done the same to him to make him understand that it hurt. The local parents’ association testified that, among other punishments, the teacher made pupils who talked too much put a pot of glue in their mouths.
