Bristol - Football clubs back new trusts

Four Bristol primaries and a secondary will become trust schools this month. Ashton Park, Southville, Ashton Vale, Compass Point and Luckwell will form the South West Bristol Co-operative Learning Trust. The group will be backed by the Co-operative Group, the University of the West of England, Bristol City Football Club, Bristol City Council and Futurelab, which aims to make education more creative.

The stated aim is to improve educational standards. Staff will plan lessons together and use the football club and other partners to make "learning more exciting and relevant".

Next year pupils, staff, parents and representatives from the local community will set up a Co-operative Forum to raise the profile of education locally. They will create a "Community Charter" or pledge to show what pupils are entitled to. hw.
