The search is on for Scottish radio stars of the future, following the launch of a national competition for SD2-S3 pupils by Aimhigher Scotland and Xfm Scotland.

The prize for the winning school will be an Apple MacBook and an exclusive Xfm event to be staged at their school before the end of the term. The top three entrants will win an Xfm Scotland radio workshop day at the studios in Glasgow.

The Schoolwave competition aims to encourage young people to think about the skills involved in a career in broadcasting, allowing them to work on a team project similar to those at college or university. Schools must create and submit an original four-minute audio radio show to be judged and short-listed by top DJs at Xfm Scotland.

Julyan Sinclair, Xfm DJ and Aimhigher “celebrity ambassador”, is backing the competition because he wants young people to know about the same opportunities which were opened up for him by going to university.

Aimhigher Scotland is a joint initiative between the Scottish Executive and the Royal Bank of Scotland, which encourages young people to consider their further and higher education and training options after school.

For information on how to enter the competition visit, www.xfmscotland.co.uk and click on schoolwave.
