SPRING DAY: THE ENLARGEMENT OF EUROPE

Thousands of schools in Europe are taking part in this event, which this year marks the accession of 10 more countries to the EU. The day, organised by European Schoolnet in collaboration with the European Commission, gives pupils the chance to learn about their neighbours and debate key issues. The first event is organised by the International Board on Books for Young People to promote reading and awareness of other cultures through books.

The Federation of Children's Book Group is co-ordinating the second event on the theme "From here to there and back again".

FREE STUDY VISITS TO UGANDA AND SUDAN

Education Action International invites primary teachers to visit a family learning project in south-eastern Uganda from July 24 to August 7. The itinerary includes visits to schools and homes and working on a project with Ugandan colleagues to develop learning resources. It has been organised in partnership with the League for the Exchange of Commonwealth Teachers. Also planned is a "school insight" visit to Sudan for teachers keen to get involved in international development. Travel and accommodation is covered for both visits.
