A former headteacher who sent sexually explicit emails from his laptop and bullied his colleagues has had his licence to teach suspended for four months.
Graham Jones, who resigned in July 2003 as head of Trelogan primary school, near Holywell, is only the second head in Wales to be disciplined for professional misconduct by the General Teaching Council for Wales.
A spokesman for the council said: “The allegations date from 2001 to 2003 and centre mainly around the use of offensive, inappropriate and obscene language.
“He would also make derogatory statements about staff to other staff members which caused emotional distress.”
A GTCW panel, sitting in Chester last week, found Mr Jones guilty of using offensive, inappropriate or obscene language; engaging in serious misconduct at work; giving false information to governors; bullying, victimising and harassing colleagues; sending sexually explicit material from his work laptop and breaching Flintshire council’s security policy on internet access.
A council spokesman said Mr Jones was suspended from his post in April 2003 and was due to face a disciplinary hearing last July. But he resigned days before the hearing.
He did not appear before the panel but was represented by a solicitor from the National Association of Head Teachers. Mr Jones could not be traced for comment.
The new head at Trelogan is Margaret Madoc Jones.
Nigel Steele-Mortimer, chair of governors at the school, said that during the previous head’s two-year tenure there had been no detrimental impact on the quality of teaching at the school, despite the problems.
He added: “We have a new and excellent head and we are happy with the progress the school is making.”
