Among Burns supper celebrants were a party of sixth-formers and their teachers from Kent. Rabbie’s works appear as “diverse cultures” in the A-level syllabus, so Scots-born teacher Steven Clark took his enthusiastic St John’s School students to the Glasgow Haggis Club where they joined 200 others bashing at the neeps and tatties.

As Clark says: “Gravesend seems as appropriate a place as any for Tam o’Shanter fanciers.”
