Desktop videoconferencing has been at the heart of technological expansion at two schools taking part in British Telecom research. Using BT's CampusVision on personal computers, inner-city pupils at Orwell junior school in Ipswich explored the contrasts between themselves and Ysol Y Graig, a rural school in north Wales.

Differences in language (English and Welsh) and geography (political, economic and physical) have formed the basis for projects in curriculum areas such as geography, history and science, and the pupils' communication skills have been tested by Campus-Vision's videotelephony, shared whiteboards and file transfer systems.
